HDMI & VHS

STEP #1

How to import video footage from a VCR player

Although it might seem a little bit complicated, it is not actually. At least as long as you lay down all the cables and devices properly. In this case, you must start by looking for the OUT plugs in your VCR / VHS player. Beware: the IN plugs will not serve here as we need to take the footage OUTSIDE the VCR. What I did was to connect an OUT SCART from the VCR to the AV2HDMI converter (see the oictures below.) Then a HDMI cable from the converter to the USB VIDEO CAPTURE device which will be plugged into the PC. Then you can play your VHS film and as soon as you open the OBS STUDIO, you'll be able to watch (and save) the footage in the computer.

STEP #2

How to record a VHS tape through a PC

This is mostly the other way round + you do not need the USB VIDEO CAPTURE device anymore. So, plug the HDMI cable in your computer and in the HDMI2AV converter. Then use a RCA cable to connect the converter and the VHS player . You can also use for that last connection a RCA / SCART cable (IN position, of course.) To make it easier, connect a TV to your VCR so you can see on screen what the VCR is recording.
